Unite Nottingham University Branch are proud to donate to
The Basket Brigade a charitable project supported by
Nottinghamshire Community Foundation (Registered Charity Number: 1069538)
This charity was nominated by our member Paul Heywood after we asked for suggestions from members for worthy causes local to Nottingham to receive a donation from local branch funds.
The ‘Basket Brigade’ is made up of volunteers who pack and deliver very special, surprise festive baskets to people who have been nominated by their community, friends or neighbours to receive something extra over the holiday period. The baskets are packed with festive foods and donated items. Sometimes this is the only gift they will have.
The International Basket Brigade project is built on a simple notion: one small act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform the lives of hundreds. The message to the recipient is simple – “This is sent from your community, to let you know that you are cared for. Take care of yourself, so you can do this for someone else one day.”
All baskets include enough crackers for everyone, a box of luxury mince pies and a figgy pudding – plus whatever donated items can be wrapped up and added in! They are festooned with festive ribbons and wrapping paper and delivered in person a few days before Christmas.
Anyone can help by donating gifts – like lovely smellies, non-perishable foodstuffs, good quality toys, scarves and gloves, books, games, handy tools, etc. for children and adults are all gratefully received. Good quality, clean second-hand donations and hand-made items are also appreciated. Teenagers – boys in particular – and men are especially hard to find gifts for. We also need volunteers to be packers on the day and drivers to help with the deliveries …. find out more.
InKind Notts (the people who brought you ‘Random Acts of Kindness Day’) will be joining up with the wonderful Indigo Brave to run the ‘Basket Brigade’ this year! All donations should be received by December 9th please – I can collect from Nottingham University Park. Email Ian Brennan firstname.lastname@example.org Tel 13806
